Kasbah Telouat and the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou are an essential part of any desert tour. In addition, we will visit the co-operative of the Nationwide Famous Green Pottery and the Coranic Library with its magnificent manuscripts. For the grand finale, you will experience the most expansive sahara dunes in Morocco.
Your four days tour to Erg Chigaga will start at 8A.M from your hotel / Riad. Then winding up through the Atlas Mountains over the Tichka Pass where the views are quite stunning. You will have many stops to take in the scenery and photography. Once we arrive to Ouarzazate nicknamed the door of the Desert, we will visit studios then have lunch before we continue to Agdaz crossing the Draa river which has given life to a huge oasis spreading for about 200 Km at the foothill of the Atlas mountains. Along the way, several palmeries will bring their shades between Kasbahs and fortified villages dotted with fields of corn, barley, vegetables and henna plantations. We will enjoy for one hour or less a gentle walk between the palm trees in the evening in a wondeful atmosphere. Then dinner and overnight at your hotel.
After breakfast, we drive to Tamgrout where a stop at the potteries famous for the green glaze and after the ancient Quranic library with exquisite hand-written Arabic. We will pass through many villages so that you can get a good idea of life in the oasis. Once we get to M’hamid, further south, at the gate to the Sahara where the paved road ends, we will stop for lunch at your leisure. In the evening, you will enjoy one to two hours camel ride leading into the heart of Sahara and to the highest Erg Chigaga dune to enjoy a mermorable sunset. You will enjoy a splendid dinner under the stars next to the campfire while entertained by local music then spend the night in your private tent enjoying the silence and the beauty of the dunes.
Get up early to enjoy the unforgettable sunrise and breakfast. The road will take us through another 100 km of the desert with varying scenery crossing different features of the desert; ‘Erg’, ‘Reg’, ‘Hammadas and oasis cross the flat dried salt lake of Iriqui and the Anti Atlas mountains, following the old track of “Rally Paris Dakar”. Then onto Foum Zguid the first town after the desert, where the paved road starts. After lunch, we continue to the Berber village of Taznakht, famous for its Berber carpets and rugs. We arrive to Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou late in the afternoon. Dinner and overnight at your hotel in Ait ben Haddou.
After breakfast you can enjoy one hour walk around the old Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, an UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987. Ait Ben Haddou is a fortified village along the ancient caravan route between the Sahara and Marrakech. In Ait Ben Haddou you will explore the traditional Moroccan style of architecture in which the Kasbahs are built. It is an ancient trading hub, and a great location for filming many movies, including Game of Thrones. After this, enjoy driving through scenic roads, stunning landscapes and Berber villages along the way. When we arrive in Talouat it is a must stop to visit the favoulous Kasbah of Kaid lglaoui. You will then travel back through the zigzag road of the Atlas Mountain, returning to Marrakech at 16:00 P.M.
